CBT’s design for the main entrance of 399 Boylston Street brings this outdated and hidden entry into prominent view. The design transforms the identity of 399 Boylston into a boutique office building to attract high-quality tenants. The plan captures space under an existing entry indented in the building façade and expands the lobby out to the retail edge. The space is wrapped in a glass wall reflecting the retail character of venues at the ground level.
The design blurs the lines between the building's interior spaces and exterior presence by extending the mirrored ceiling and ground plans beyond the new glassy curtain wall, creating a greater sense of depth. A beautiful, horizontally-oriented stacked-stone feature wall draws the eye deep into the space and creates a new beacon along Boylston Street. White metallic paint for the interior exposed brick walls complement and contrast with numerous metallic elements — such as the canopy, hardware, wall bases, stair rails, and trim — to evoke a high-end luxury retail quality. New lighting inside and out illuminates the lobby as a glassy jewel box and highlights the feature wall, and a beautiful lit sign with crisp lettering marks the entry.
