The design challenge of the Goulston & Storrs new office space was to unify the long, large floor plate of their new 60,000-square-foot offices overlooking Boston Harbor. The goal of the project was to articulate an aesthetic that was representative of the firm. The result is a sleek elevator lobby with leather flooring and upholstered walls, which leads into a reception area that is at once comfortable and dramatic.
The design anchors the long space by introducing strong architectural elements in the geometry of the reception desk and echoing curve of the enclosed conference room at the opposite end of the plan, visually framing and bringing the space together. A functional central island encased in wood paneling hides the office equipment and files and becomes another unifying design feature.
