Continuing our realization of The Fessenden School’s Master Plan, CBT reimagined the school’s science area to create an open and welcoming Science Wing that “screamed science.” The design goals, developed through in-depth visioning sessions during the pandemic,  center on science classrooms, teacher work rooms, collaboration spaces, break out rooms, demonstration areas and types, robotics needs, and, ultimately, an energizing, whole school integration.

Designed over two floors, the new 11,000-square-foot Science Wing incorporates the extensive interior renovation of the existing science wing located within Lane Hall and repurposed space beneath  the Elfers Center for the Performing Arts. The Wing features a new open common student and teacher demonstration space created by the reconfiguration of existing classrooms and includes new locker rooms and toilets. This transformation changed enclosed corridors into a visually connected area for student learning and group work.

Bringing Fessenden students expanded learning environments, the Science Wing features improved technology for flexible learning, adaptable display areas for rotating curriculum, and opportunities for learning designed into the architecture: a functioning prism wall, a living green wall, and age-appropriate teaching topics integrated into floor-finish patterns. A comprehensive renovation, the Science Wing incorporates new finishes, lighting, HVAC system, and the upgrade of plumbing, fire protection, and electrical systems.
