Biophilia and Human-Scaled Retail Design
In collaboration with Taiwanese developer, Pao Huei Development Co., CBT has created the master plan for the first multi-block, integrated development in Taichung, Taiwan’s second-largest city. CBT’s vision for a new residential and retail environment within Taichung’s Tunghai University district, creates a new vibrancy for this established area, with a lush, green vertical landscape and an engaging human-scaled, retail-focused streetscape environment.

A Vertical Village
Envisioned as a “vertical village,” the master plan for this three-parcel development is anchored by a new, 381,000-square-foot, 22-story tower with a six-level, below-grade parking garage, for which CBT is the core-and-shell design architect. The tower hosts new residences and residential amenities in combination with over 77,500 square feet of retail and community space throughout the first four levels of the tower’s podium base. A formal residential lobby and a full complement of residential amenities are planned for the fourth level of the podium which is the base of the residential tower.

Green and Grounded
Distinguished by plants and trees in the outdoor areas of its lower levels, concluding with a rooftop garden, the new Pao Huei Village welcomes residents and visitors alike to a vibrant neighborhood retail experience designed to engage all through a multi-sensory, human-scaled design approach. Pao Huei Village’s street level showcases a robust retail program with access to upper-level retail floors. With the understanding that “in-store shopping is here to stay,” the village’s retail program features bookstores, cafes, fresh food markets, restaurants, and inviting specialty shops.
