One of the most recognizable office towers in Boston, 99 Summer Street is a first class office building in the heart of the Financial District. This high-profile office building required a lobby update to match the energy and traffic of its bustling neighborhood. Located adjacent to several MBTA public transit lines, shopping, and eateries, this lobby and mezzanine space was revived with a focus on creating one of the most active and desirable public spaces in the area.
Prior to the transformation of this space, the entry from Summer Street was narrow, and provided an alley-like feel that underserved the quality of the property itself. The CBT team masterfully curated the arrival experience that converted a gritty and edgy place into a modern urban environment defined by light, art, and high design.
The design team considered many elements when conceiving the new space: parks, outdoor urban environments; and infused architectural elements that encourage people here to gather, linger, relax, chat, and enjoy the space. The use of concrete, wood and steel kept the palette simple. The feature tile introduces street art and an extensive custom-patterned, walk-off mat provides a pervasive sense of authenticity in design.
