CBT and AvalonBay Celebrate Avalon North Station Groundbreaking

On October 27, CBT and AvalonBay celebrated the groundbreaking of the new 38-story, 415 foot mixed-use residential tower, Avalon North Station at a ceremony attended by Mayor Marty Walsh, project team members, neighborhood residents and city officials. Event speakers included AvalonBay Senior Vice President Scott Dale, Mayor Marty Walsh, City Councilor Josh Zakim, and West End resident Jane Forrestall.

Located adjacent to the TD Garden, the project will house 503 studio, one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments – 30 of which will be designated affordable units, as well as space for 220 cars. The project will also incorporate a two-story public arcade between Nashua Street and Causeway Street offering pedestrians easy back-and-forth access to different parts of the city and will create a dramatic new entry to the city from the north.

“This is a terrific project for the neighborhood around North Station, which has seen great investment in residential construction recently,” said Mayor Marty Walsh. “Avalon North Station will bring exciting new retail opportunities, easy access to public transportation for residents, and stronger Connections to the surrounding community.”

As part of the project, developer AvalonBay has pledged $600,000 in community benefit funds for additional public enhancements. The units are expected to occupancy-ready by late-2016. Construction is slated for completion in 2017.

Avalon North Station groundbreaking follows the July 2014 topping off of a another AvalonBay and CBT residential project– AVA Theater District, a 29-story building on Stuart Street with over 400 apartments.
